DJ Ed Alexander
"The Old Prospector"

My Tales (Stories from the Old Prospector)

My Bio:
Began in radio in high school as a record librarian in the early 70's, and then on-the-air at a series of small radio stations.

Made it above the Arctic Circle and spent the 80's there in Public Radio, while gold mining with friends on weekends.

Enjoyed the 90's being a Classic Country in the evenings as "The Old' Prospector" for Great Empire Broadcasting at Omaha Nebraska's WOW-AM until the station was sold and the call letters abandoned at the end of '99.

Currently overnight Classic Country DJ seven nights a week for the Waitt Radio Network.

Classic Country Music Artists are a whole lot more appreciative of air-time. I love putting them back in the spotlight. These are some of my impressions of the people who made Country Music:

Best guy to hang out with before a show was Eddy Raven. Plenty of great behind-the-scenes stories from his records.  For instance, on recording "Joe Knows How To Live" he'd throw in little one-liners at the end of the song.  At the end of the recording session, they kept the best ones and strung them together, trailing off as the song faded out.

John Conlee's voice was as smooth as it's always been, just as Gene Watson's is.  These guys really take care of themselves to protect their voices.  In one case, though, John used a cold to his advantage.  He'd come down with one just before he recorded "Busted."  And that made his vocals sound even more down-and-out on that cut and it was decided to leave them as they were.

Johnny Cash was just standing backstage emotionless until I was introduced to him, then he came to life as if someone had turned on a light switch. After I left, it was like someone had switched him off again.

Ray Price was cracking off-color jokes to try to fit in as just one of the guys.

Willie Nelson was a slow-moving  little man, a bit like Yoda, but his eyes lit up when he saw the Waylon & Wille t-shirt I was wearing.

Tammy Wynette was a thin little thing, looking for a place to eat salad with her band before the show.
